I live with my partner, Ross, in Rangiora, North Canterbury, New Zealand. Rangiora is a smaller town which is approx 30 mins north of Christchurch.
In my spare time I enjoy cat shows, animal photography, tending to my horses,, shopping and going out for dinner or coffee with friends.
I started off with my first Maine Coon neuter which I purchased in 2001. This was Gld Dbl Gr Pr Shiningwater Morpheus otherwise known as Murphy. He was bred by Zena Pigden of Dunedin. Previously at a show, (I was showing a moggy and a chinchilla persian at the time) I had seen Zena's stud boy Keoka Zarniwoop (imp UK) and he convinced me that I needed a Maine Coon in my life!
After living with Murphy for a couple of years and had a number of successes with him on the show bench I decided that Maine Coons were definitely the breed for me. I applied for my NZCF prefix in 2003 and after much discussion with Zena I purchased my first breeding girl, a beautiful silver tortie tabby and white named Shiningwater Tabitha Twitchit.
I am a founder member of the NZ Maine Coon Cat Club and hold the position of club secretary and South Island publicity officer. We are a small friendly club and I look forward to the day were we have a larger membership and will be able to run our own club shows.
I am also on the committee of the Longhair Cat Breeders Assocation of which I have been a member since 1993. Recently I was made a "life member" which was a great honour. The Longhair Club runs 2 shows a year which are based in Canterbury and can be quite busy but all in all the committee are a great bunch to work with.
Maine Coons are my passion. To me size is nothing compared to there quirky personality, the gentle temperaments and the general look that Maine Coons have.
